Canopy Door Load Check

Actuator Calculations

Planning a powered boat lift canopy door? Enter your door size, weight, and design wind speed, and this calculator sweeps the door from closed to open to find the actuator force needed at the worst point, then checks it against the PA-04 400 lb rating.

PA-04 · 400 lb Rating Wind + Gravity Load Stroke Recommendation Live Swing Simulation

What It Checks

Size the actuator before you drill a single hole.

A top-hinged canopy door is pushed shut by wind when it is closed and pulled down by gravity when it is open. The calculator works through the full 0° to 90° swing so you can see where the load peaks, which stroke fits your door, and whether the actuator clears the hinge.

Peak Actuator Force

Combines wind and door weight through the swing and reports the highest force, with your safety factor applied.

Best Stroke Length

Compares every PA-04 stroke from 10" to 24" and recommends the shortest one that stays at or below 75% of the rating.

Mounting Layout

Works out the ceiling drop, base position, and rod-end point, and draws the side view to scale with hinge clearance.

Wind Limit

Tells you the highest wind speed the PA-04 can still open and hold your door against with the chosen layout.

Reading Your Results

Green: Good to Go

At or below 75% of the rating, a clean 90° swing, and more than 1" of hinge clearance.

Orange: Caution

75–100% of the rating, the door opens past or short of 90°, or the hinge clearance is tight.

Red: Stop

Over the 400 lb rating, the actuator hits the hinge, or the stroke jams past center. Adjust before ordering.
